Everyone say it with me:
The KoQ is NOT a spin-off of Everybody Love Raymond.
How did this whole business get started in the first place?
I have been trying to explain this to my "friends" at this forum:
Start with Post #5 (http://www.tv.com/the-king-of-queens/show/239/this-show-is-so-great-are-there-any-shows-similar-to-it/topic/344-1043143/msgs.html?msg_id=11350846#9)

They don't appear to be true, hardcore fans like us. If they were they'd have their facts straight!!! :biggrinking: ;)
"Kravitzfan" insists KoQ IS a spin off but can't post any proof. Wonder why that is. :laughing out loud: Believe what ya want J.P.
They've probably never seen every episode. Numbnutz'!

I thought a true spinoff is when a show is created w/ characters from a series that has already ended.
ie. The series/character "Fraiser" from "Cheers".

Didn't you guys read my post in the thread I gave the link for?:
"True Spin-Offs" are spin-offs that take established characters from one TV series and give them their own show.
When Kevin James was on ELR intially, his character's name was Kevin.
KoQ debuted in Sep. 1998.
Doug was not on ELR until Nov.1998.
Here's a quote from Ray Romano:
"He was a character on my show for the first year. Which had nothing to do with him getting his show.
They were already interested in him."
I would upload the vid for you guys if I could figure out how to convert it!
It's one of those weird files.
Just consider this:
There was no Doug and Carrie Heffernan on ELR, so I can't possibly see how KoQ can be a spin-off of ELR!

This reminds me of the whole Good Times spin-off debate... Just like I don't agree Good Times is a spin-off of Maude, neither is King of Queens a spin-off of ELR. THERE, I SAID IT!!!!:D

Just copied and paste what I wrote in the other thread about Raymond lol
Your comment about the kids not knowing better... That episode about the cookies, Ray is such a dork and a baby for crying over a damned beach chair.
that was over a beach chair? hahaha, man thats sad... and something else that bugs me about Mr. Raymond Barone Ramando or whatever his last name is his voice. Somebody give this guy some Vick's vapor rub or something he always sounds congested or nasally
And Ken yea I think Kevin was in a handgul of episodes as some other guy I forget what name he went by. But he did actually have an appearance on there as Doug from what I heard.

I saw only one, flipping through channels I saw Kevin & stopped. He played a guy called Kevin on a sports show with "Ray Sucks".
He may have been a Doug too, but I think jp's posts confirm that at no time was he a Doug Heffernan or anything close to the KoQ's character. Different guy, different show on "Ray Sucks" Then came KoQ's
Rays show should have been "Everybody Hates Raymond & His Mother Barely Likes Him"

:thumbsup:I think fans and other people want to give ELR a whole lot of credit for KoQ's. Ok ELR was an emmy-winning show, a ratings winner, blah blah blah, can't dispute that. But I hate when people say that KoQ was a spin-off of that show. As if to somehow give ELR more star power. I never even saw Kevin James on ELR until AFTER I began watching KoQ. I wasn't an avid watcher of ELR. I only watched several episodes in syndication. I liked many of the episodes but overall I prefer KoQ HANDS DOWN!

My least favorite KOQ episodes are the ones Ray is in. Nothing personal against the dude but he comes across as a guy who really thinks he is funny and I just dont think so. Now..with Kevin, it just comes natural. :) (being funny I mean )

Its very clear that KOQ is not spin off of ELR but why is that important?Does being a spin off make it a lesser sitcom than others?I am just curious...Are there any negative connotations for spin off? Or is it just a fact and you want people to know it?I want to know whats the significance if KOQ is not a spin-off?

KoQ's wasn't given its due, plain & simple. I don't believe it was promoted the way it should have been.
You know and I know KoQ's should have had Emmys up the kazoo. Individually and collectively.
If ELR & 2 1/2 Morons got any, KoQ's should have been swamped in them. No justice! TV sitcoms is a cutthroat business from what I've heard.

Agreed. And as Ryan said, that nasally voice of Ray's is so damn annoying!:laughing out loud:

I figure it wasn't because ELR was the "star" of CBS and any show leading up to it was just that, a lead-in show. Sad!

Example: John Ritter's comedy when 3's Company ended was a spinoff because it took a character and continued a story with that certain charcter.
I wouldnt say there is a "negative" but I rather refer to it as giving credit where credit is due. In other words, KJ did this on his own and didnt build his character based on a ELR character he portrayed.
I think as I said it is giving credit where it is due plus keeping the facts straight.
