Anyone else...feel free to post your team if I missed ya.
Very sad news today for those who havent heard:
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)—Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others were killed by a suspected drunk driver Thursday, a shocking end to the life of a rookie who had overcome major elbow surgery to realize his big league dreams.
The accident in neighboring Fullerton occurred hours after the 22-year-old pitcher made his season debut with his father in the stands, throwing six scoreless innings against the Oakland Athletics. The Angels ultimately lost the game, 6-4.
The team postponed Thursday night’s game with Oakland, the final one of their season-opening series.
“It is a tragedy that will never be forgotten,” manager Mike Scioscia said at an Angel Stadium news conference
Adenhart’s father, Jim, a retired Secret Service agent, walked onto the field in the empty stadium Thursday and spent several moments alone on the pitcher’s mound. Wearing a red sweatshirt, the Angels’ color, he briefly covered his eyes with one hand..

Man I hope the Braves do some damage this season. We beat the Phillies in the opening series 2-1. But it should of been 3-0. I still cant figure out how they let a 10-4 lead in the bottom of 7th inning slip like that.
I like our team this year though I hate they let John Smoltz leave to go to the freaking red sox:mad:
Im still getting use to the fact of not being in the playoffs every year now. 14 Years straight winning the division/ Playoff ball and being the best team in baseball not named the Yankees or Red Sox has spoiled us Braves fans but does make it more interesting now. Too bad we only got 1 world series out of the whole 14 year run we had even thought we had 5 other world series appearances during that time. I still think we got scewed out of 1991 with the Twins and 1996 world series with the Yankees :lespecially the 1991 one but it is what it is.:laughing out loud:

No, not the Tigers. Born & raised just outside Boston, so even though it's been 21 years since I moved to Michigan. I'm still a Red Sox man.

I know what ya mean Ryan about dry spells. I really got into baseball "after" the Big Red Machine began to dismantle.
So ...I have seen One World Series and not too many playoffs.
On the plus side, we finally have alot of youngsters like Votto/Bruce/cueto etc so maybe things are improving. :)

Yea The Reds have got a really young team with alot of potential. Just another piece or two added to that team and I can easily see several playoff appearances for them.
My local channel has Reds games and they broadcast 145-150 a year. (out of 162) :) :) :) :)
I am such a big baseball fan that I usually always purchase the MLBEI package where you can watch 95% of every game played by ANY team. Over the winter, I switched my cable TV provider and before I did I specifically asked if they had it. ( MLB Extra Innings). They said yes and after making the switch they dont have it.....:(
I really like all the features I get with this TV deal and hate to change it again. However...when Reds arent playing (like getting rained out last night)...I miss my Baseball package !!!!

Talk about being screwed... In 1994 the Expos had the best record in Baseball, six games ahead of the Braves. Then the STRIKE!! boo'hoo...
I was a Montreal Expos fan until they moved to Washington. So Ryan, you had fourteen years of being in the playoffs, and I had fourteen years seeing the Braves manhandle the Expos.
Needless to say I dont care for the Braves very much.
I now follow the Dodgers... Albuquerque (grew up there) now has their AAA affiliate, The Albuquerque Isotopes. Have you seen the Simpons episode?

haha, funny you mention this tonight about The expos because The Braves just laid the smackdown on the Expos (Now the nationals) again tonight... I guess somethings never change:p j/k. That does suck about the Expos as a hardcore Braves fan I will be one of the first to admit that strike saved our ass. Not to say the Braves couldnt come back from that deficit, because they were able to come back from 4 or 5 games back before and after the strike. But the Expos were a really great team could of easily prevented the streak. That strike is the reason the Expos arent in Montreal anymore.
As for the Simpsons yea I saw that episode hahhaa, people thought Homer was going crazy that the Springfield team was moving to Albuquerque, isnt that the one where he went on a hunger strike?
Very sad news. This man had quite a voice !
Phillies announcer Harry Kalas dead at 73
WASHINGTON (AP)—Longtime Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, who punctuated innumerable home runs with his “Outta Here!” call, died Monday after being found in the broadcast booth before a game against the Washington Nationals. He was 73.
“We lost our voice today,” team president David Montgomery said, his voice cracking. “He has loved our game and made just a tremendous contribution to our sport and certainly to our organization.”
Kalas was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m. and taken to a local hospital, Montgomery said.
Kalas had surgery earlier this year for an undisclosed ailment that the team characterized as minor. He looked somewhat drawn last week as the Phillies opened the season at home.
Kalas joined the Phillies in 1971. Before that, he was an original member of the Houston Astros’ broadcast team from 1965-70. He also did voiceover work for NFL Films and for commercials.
In 2002, he received the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions to the game.
Kalas joined the Phillies radio and TV broadcast team the year the club moved into their former home, Veterans Stadium, replacing fan favorite Bill Campbell.
He wasn’t immediately embraced by Phillies fans, despite being paired with Richie Ashburn, a Hall of Famer as a player, and longtime announcer. But Kalas evolved into a beloved sports figure in Philadelphia. He and Ashburn grew into a popular team, and shared the booth until Ashburn’s death in 1997.

Yea the Dodgers are doing really well right now... At the rate things are going now I can see a Dodgers vs. Blue Jays World Series. Although I live in Toronto currently, Im not really into any of the sports teams here but Toronto is doing really well right now. I think alot of it has to do with them bringing back their old manager that helped them win the World Series in 92 and 93.
Manny is killing it right now and I bet the Yankees are really missing Joe Torre right about now.:laughing out loud:

I am so proud of my Dodgers but this dude has now tarnished their history making winning streak.:(
We are going to be getting some tickets to see a game. When my dad was alive we went to Dodger games a lot. The last time I went was two years ago. Me and my honey went to two night games in a row. The first time his boss gave him two tickets and they were GREAT SEATS! I saw a couple of celebs nearby. I didn't need binoculars this time to see them. :lol3: Then, this couple who sat in front of us began chatting with us and when the game finished, the gentleman handed my boyfriend an envelope and said, "Here, enjoy yourselves again." There were two tickets and a free parking pass. WHOO HOO!!! He was a season ticket holder. What a nice couple they were. See, there are good people out there.

I wa shocked to hear about Manny. One report I heard was it a doctor prescribed drug for a personal matter , which later said...a sex drive drug !
Later I heard more to it so I dont know. I only know I cant understand why if a guy is getting a drug from a doctor...FIRST THING HE NEEDS TO DO IS CHECK WITH MLB TO SEE IF ALLOWED ! Duh? How hard would that be ?
If he has been taking steroids.....shame shame !

I have a hard time believing Manny took something prescribed by a doctor and no one knew about it. If it was legit, don't you think the team doctor and Joe Torre would be the first ones to know about any sort of medication Manny was taking? I mean it is common sense that in this day and age, especially after the whole Jose Canseco broohaha that one cannot hide steroid use. AND! if he was taking something prescribed by his doctor, it makes sense to present that info to those who need to know so that when drug-testing is done, there is nothing to hide.

Correct. If he had to take a vitamin for example...it should have been checked out.
Then again, ya never know, knowing Manny, maybe he just wanted a couple of months off in the summer.

Inter- league play starts this weekend and the best series of all, IMO, is Phillies vs Yankees !
Maybe a preview of World Series !
What a win for NY last night against Mets. A-Rod pops out to second with 2 outs in 9th and down by a run. Mets second baseman drops it for error and Yanks win by a run as two men on score.

I know what you mean about not being old enough to know the Reds when they were good. That is how I feel about my Knicks. Although, they were good in the mid 90's and I of course remember that but they weren't great where they won.

Those Knicks teams were pretty good, their best chance to win it all was those two years Jordan retired and came really close by making the finals but couldnt get it done.
Moving back to baseball, My Atlanta braves have been lighting it up lately, it looks like they are making a serious push to get into the Wildcard Hunt. Our GM has assembled a really good young team. They aint the Braves of the 90's.. actually I dont think any team can reach that level again unless they are called the Yankees. But this new team they got now has really grown on me. I wish the Phillies would lose a game already. lol

Yea, Philly annoys me as well. I just don't like them. The Braves do look good from what I know but I must admit that I don't want the National leage much since the Yanks are in the American League. I do hope that they get the wild card. I always like to see teams in the playoffs who haven't been there in a while. For instance I loved when the Cubs made it those few years. But they couldn't get it done. :(

Atlanta has as good a chance as any for the wildcard. The phils will win the division easy more than likely. Same for LA in the west. Whoever wins the central will probably have around 90 wins so that puts the braves in a good position to make a run at Wildcard.
Unlike The AL where you know the runner-up of Boston and New York will more than likely get WC.

Don't feel too bad. At least he has memories of World Series victories.
I've been a Cubs fan for 40 years and... zippo!
Sort of a change of pace here but since we have baseball fans, I thought I would throw this out.
Today Bud Selig announced he is considering lifting the ban on Pete Rose.
Opinions ?
Me ? I think Pete has paid his due and it is high time. Considering you have all these jokers now who have done steroids and HGH, then Rose should be included in baseball again. I dont believe he ever bet on his own team and Pete Rose knew the game whether you loved him or hated him.
Being a REDS fan, I was alittle closer to the radio shows etc, but I can say...I could listen to Pete talk baseball all day.

As a player, to me, Pete Rose was what the pure game of baseball was/is all about. A players player, the Ty Cobb of his era. They didn't call him Charlie Hustle for nothing. All out all the time.
He never should have been banned in the first place. He never, ever would have compromised his own team or any game he was involved in. Bunch of hypocrites making an example that went way, way over the line.
Can't wait to see him back in some capacity.
Well My Reds in the last 15 games are 1-14....:o

Not to much excitement for the first game of the WS. To bad the Phillies couldn't get the shutout. Nice to see a pitcher go the whole 9 innings though.
